Our Boone NC Camping location is very convenient to Elk Knob State Park, North Carolina's newest addition to the state parks system. This amazing park has it all, no matter the season! Elk Knob is the second highest peak in Watauga County and atop its summit are outstanding, broad views of the entire High Country region and beyond. Hikers love the opportunity to hike up the 5, 520 summit trail. The hike itself is strenuous at times and in places the terrain is rugged and rocky; however, the views are phenomenal and breathtaking. From the summit, other mountain tops and ridgelines are visible. Mount Jefferson, Three Top Mountain, The Peak, Bluff Mountains, Longhope Valley, Mount Mitchell, Mount Rogers (in Virginia), and the Iron Mountains of Virginia and Tennessee are all visible on a clear day atop the summit of Elk Knob State Park.

Spring, summer and fall provide beautiful seasonal backdrops at Elk Knob State Park. Visitors that are staying with us at Blue Bear Mountain often visit Elk Knob State Park as our location for Camping in Boone NC is right down the road from the park. In the winter, Elk Knob State Park remains open and is one of the only places in Boone where you can go cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Also, if you enjoy mountain biking in NC, the newly opened Rocky Knob Mountain Bike Park is just a short distance away and provides real, mountain biking trails. Amazingly, Rocky Knob is the only recreation area of its kind in the High Country where you will find trails created specifically for mountain bikers.
